Updates - 2004
General
- 2004-08-02 Corrected the menubar, which had two links to my guestbook and was missing a link to the contact page. Also changed the menubar to all lower case letters, except acronyms, proper nouns, etc. Slightly altered the look of the guestbook too.
- 2004-07-24 Replaced most of the edited material from my diary, since there seems to be no obligation on me now to keep it out.
- 2004-07-18 Finally got rid of all references to that petition at GoPetition.com (still gutted that flopped so underwhelmingly), and changed the titles of all documents (usually appearing in the titlebar of your browser) to "leevclarke.net --" instead of "leevclarke |". I liked the latter better, but couldn't use that vertical line for my pages at FreeFind.com, so for uniformity I decided on something else to use everywhere. Also reorganised the menubar slightly, and added a link to my forum.
- 2004-07-13 Changed the contact email address, because I'm receiving spam on the old one (don't we all?). Just check the contact page for the latest address. :-D
- 2004-06-21 Removed the "new" label attached to THUG on the menubar at the bottom of the screen, since it isn't really that new any more. :-p
- 2004-05-14 Updated the code again, trying to make it compliant with strict XHTML; this is impossible since the "target" attribute is not permissible, and I need links in inline frames to open in the whole window. Because of this I can't find a solution to bring the site any higher than HTML 4.01 Transitional, but I have got rid of most of the "align" attributes (only centred elements still to do) and other gapingly needed changes.
- 2004-05-02 Updated the custom 404 page to reflect the fact that most unfound pages are the old framed pages (and the most requested of these seems to be the Autographs page).
- 2004-04-25 Added a custom error 404 (page not found) webpage for handling broken links - so much more stylish than the default page from my host. ;-) More custom error pages may follow...
- 2004-04-18 Added a site search facility (courtesy of FreeFind.com) to the bottom of each page.
- 2004-03-16 Added an AOL banner to the Contact page. ;-)
- 2004-03-15 Removed all GIFs from this website - I'm switching to the PNG format as it's open source and actually better than GIFs. :-) See BurnAllGIFs.org for more information about my sudden motivation. Also fixed internal links on the Contact page, which pointed to the subsections within the page.
- 2004-02-26 Ran all my pages through a basic HTML Validator (it's a progam called TagCheck for those who are interested in such things), and found a fair few errors on my part that have now all been corrected - very little change in the content except the Contact page, which has been tidied up and finished off properly.
- 2004-01-27 Updated the diary and guestbook so that hopefully they now look more in line with the website itself. Also temporarily incorporating a link to my petition against the new surcharges on CDs in the UK and Ireland - please take a look, and sign if you support the rights of the consumer. :-)
- 2004-01-17 Revamp is all but finished. Links now do not have a target specified (with the exception of navigation inline frames), so nothing will open in a new window automatically. This is because different browsers and different users handle links indivually (e.g. Netscape Navigator and other browsers have webpage tabs, and you wouldn't want new windows for any link).
- 2004-01-15 I haven't updated this site properly for ages - but I am putting in serious work now to remove all frames. This means putting the links list at the bottom of the page horizontally instead of at the left vertically. I don't like it as much (probably), but it gives you the full width of the browser for the webpage itself, and gets rid of the outdated frames dependency. Hopefully it will pay off in the end. :-p
- 2004-12-17 Added a "Today In History" section, courtesy of BraveNet.com - it displays a random selection of notable events that happened on this day in history (as the name suggests), so here's to hoping visitors find it interesting. :-)
- 2004-07-18 Changed a reference in the second paragraph to Next and Previous links at the top and bottom of each page (a remnant of the old framed version of the site). Also made the words "my Personal page" in the same pagagraph into a link to my Personal page. :-p I put a link to my forum on the homepage a few weeks ago now, probably. Evidently I didn't record it in this updates list, but then again I only created it on a whim. Will it fizzle out when I realise it's a waste of time? Probably. :-p Would like to put the forum logo on every page, but it will only screw up the menubar (still relying on inline frames currently).
- 2004-07-01 Converted all the Notes from this page into FAQ on the FAQ page, and replaced the Notes section with a New Visitors section.
- 2004-03-16 Changed the graphic here from the Blue Ribbon badge to the larger but more general EFF graphic (the Blue Ribbon campaign may have expired, as the webpage now just redirects to the EFF homepage).
- 2004-02-25 Made the references to Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator into hyperlinks to the relevant webpages. Removed the reference to frames when saying that Winamp's browser should be sufficient to view this website, since I no longer use frames. Removed the reference to the (now defunct) Free Stuff page in the opening paragraphs.
- 2004-01-16 Removed some of the Miscellaneous Notes (re: frames, etc.) since they are no longer relevant. Removed the links for users without frames, as all should now be able to see the site properly.
- 2004-07-01 Several modifications and additions.
- 2004-06-29 Added the FAQ page on a whim (actually I added it on the evening of the 38th, but modified it some before uploading it for the first time, so that doesn't really count :-p).
- 2004-03-15 Fixed the banner - the graphic was missing because it was for an affiliate with who I no longer have an account.
- 2004-11-22 Changed the Commodore C64 link to the newly-online official Commdore C64 webpage instead of the Commodore C64 category at Google.
- 2004-10-04 Added the results of the Which South Park Character Are You survey at Quizilla.com - I'm Eric Cartman. ;-)
- 2004-09-26 Updated the links to a Southampton webcam, the port of Southampton and the location of Southampton in the British Isles - all located under Southampton, modern (these may have been out of date for some time, as I use an automated link checker that will only draw my attention to genuine 404s rather than customised "page not found" messages).
- 2004-09-08 Added pictures of my Wee-Mee and a second South Park caricature of me (stood by the bus-stop). Changed the "flavour of jam" item to "fruit flavour" in my Favourites table. Removed the request for info about Malcolm In The Middle on DVD (as it is now available). Added a new table, the Either/Or table. Reorganised some text and stuff.
- 2004-07-14 Updated the link to my eBay page to reflect the recent change to my eBay user ID.
- 2004-06-21 Divided the Pictures of Me section into two parts (boy and man), and added a pic of me from 2002. Added a link to my eBid.co.uk About Me page, where I have a new account.
- 2004-04-25 Updated the personal factfile to reflect the fact that I now have no pets, since my last cat Tiger died last December 16th. :'(
- 2004-03-16 Adjusted the photos of me some more, including brightness, contrast and saturation where appropriate. Put the picture of 8-year-old "goth" me back in (must have taken that out ages ago), and reworded the accompanying paragraph slightly.
- 2004-03-15 Fixed several broken links in the Tolerance essay, including the Cascading Stylesheet, the banner, the menubar and the copyright notice (that page must have been a nightmare for anyone who visited it - and yet, no complaints... :-|).
- 2004-03-01 Fixed the pictures of me as a child by using Adobe PhotoShop's Auto Levels, Auto Contrast and Auto Colour features. ;-)
- 2004-02-26 Moved the link to my Friends Reunited webpage to this page, listed under My Education.
- 2004-12-27 Removed the 'Joint Top Answers' section under the post-mortem to the Social Classes questionnaire, as it is possible to have joint top answers (but only if you have a mix of As, Bs and Cs for your answers).
- 2004-06-30 Changed the word "guaranteed" in the last paragraph of the intro to be highlighted with the em (emphasis) tag instead of the b (bold) tag (I am trying to move away from bold and italic tags in favour of emphasis, because it's more general). Also added a quote from Jonathan Katz (about honesty being the best policy), which I found on a webpage about "You're On The Air" with Jonathan Katz. I wish I could write one-liners like he can. ;-)
- 2004-03-15 Fixed the banner - the graphic was missing because it was for an affiliate with who I no longer have an account.
- 2004-03-16 Fixed a broken link to a picture of Will LeBow (apparently the file had moved), and turned Julianne Shapiro's name into a link to a page with info about her. Also turned the quotes around Who's The Boss and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids into entities as they should be (no difference to the way it looks, just proper coding. ;-) Removed the AllPosters.com search box at the top of the page.
- 2004-10-18 Changed the banner to Swapitshop's ThinkUKnow campaign, because they have a special offer at the moment - double swapits for clicks and registrations. ;-)
- 2004-03-16 Removed the part under Windows XC that offers for you to review the skin at Winamp.com - I don't think I ever got any third-party reviews, and my skin has since been removed anyway (if that doesn't sound too gory :-p).
- 2004-03-16 Removed all links to the SkinnerToo registration webpage (the text on my webpage still reads the same, but it no longer links to a page that doesn't exist).
- 2004-03-15 Changed the banner to CafePress.com referrals, as this may be of more interest to visitors (and I wasn't using that banner anywhere else :-p).
- 2004-01-17 Added an introductory paragraph to explain the webpage to people who don't know what skinning is. Also got rid of the link to buy the full version of SkinnerToo, since the program has been suspended for the time being in light of Winamp5's release.
- 2004-10-18 Changed the banner to Swapitshop's ThinkUKnow campaign, because they have a special offer at the moment - double swapits for clicks and registrations. ;-)
- 2004-03-16 Delinked the reference to Smackdown! 3, because the domain now times out - possibly it has been abandoned because SD4 and 5 have been released since then. ;-) Changed the GTAtanks button graphic link to a text link, because the graphic is now missing. Not sure if GTAtanks is coming back, but check out GTAtanks old address to keep up.
- 2004-03-15 Changed the banner to Kuma War instead of Swapitshop. Also fixed an internal broken link that points to the introductory paragraph.
- 2004-03-16 Changed the banner to Swapitshop instead of the HypeCouncil banner, as their THUG content seems to have been removed (presumably they remove old campaigns quite promptly). Also removed the text link at the top.
- 2004-01-15 Getting rid of this page completely - I don't like having an entire page loaded with adverts really, and it just isn't paying off at all. Will also be getting rid of the AllPosters.com banners, and anything else that very few people are clicking and no one at all is joining. Would like it if I could get some cash back for having this site, but will have to make do with Swapits.
